I believe that the requests made by SAM (system admin) should be only songs that haven't been requested for ...say... like no more than 10 times or less, that way we won't miss those songs that we wait to request (like The Final COuntdown )

SAM does have a strong preference for least played tracks and artists but it has to pick popular songs once in a while. If you listen to the stream while nobody is requesting it is already a pretty different experience. I do want a familiar track chosen by SAM once in a while to keep audiences interested. |

I have a complaint about SAM.
There seems to be some tracks that are perpetually unavailable. I know SAM can request tracks that are not available yet to members. I understand the need for this and don't have a problem with it.
What I have a problem with is SAM resetting the no-repeat time back to 8 days when it plays an unavailable track. If the track was unavailable when SAM plays it, could the no-repeat time be left alone? (Or at least not pushed all the way back out to 8 days ... something much less than 8, like 1 day maybe.)
I've been pretty active on this site for over a month, and I have about 20+ out of 400 in my favorites that have never been available. And I'm pretty sure it's not because of other members constantly picking all 20+ of them before I do. I think it's because SAM keeps them permanently unavailable to all members.
I've seen tracks like Living in America, Mickey, Don't Worry Be Happy, and a few others go through the queue over and over again before they ever become available.
If there is a list of specific tracks, that because of some SAM rule, will never be available to members, could they be listed? Then I could remove them from my favorites. |

Thanks GaryLASQ. I have noticed that also a long time ago. SAM prefers to request the ones of one album, one track and one artist, Like Pop Muzik by M,
I'll Find My Way Home by Jon & Vangelis and Far From Over by Frank Stallone and others.
JERIC knows this, and he said he will deal with it in the near future when he has some time to reprogram it _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne - The Shawshank Redemption)

Thanks for the reply. I think if SAM simply did nothing to the wait time after playing an unavailable track, that would do the trick. Hopefully that would not put SAM into an infinite loop of playing Mickey all day long. |

Yes I think SAM is waiting 3 days before a particular track will be played again.
Of course better is that we have enough members all day long so SAM do not have to request _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne - The Shawshank Redemption)

All the sudden, I'm seeing tracks become available that I've never seen available before. I've picked 4 in the last 2 days. Sweet! Couple other members have mentioned the same thing in chat.
Anyone do some SAM tweaking, or did its formula finally free up some "favorites" on its own? |

Rats! Just saw SAM steal "Don't Worry Be Happy" again, and it only had 16 hours to go before the 8 day wait was over. Now it's back to 8 days again. *sigh*
While I'm complaining about SAM ... I have another idea about wait times in general. Instead of setting it back to exactly 8 days, how about 8 days + 2 hours? This way tracks will "creep" around the clock, so they won't keep becoming available at the same time of day.
More active members (like me) tend to hop on the site at the same time of day and keep seeing the same favs available because they picked them about the same time of day 8 days ago. A 2 hour offset (or more) will allow the track to be seen by more members around the clock. |

I'd support the 8 days + 2 hours concept. The shorter the No Repeat schedule is, the more opportunities real humans have to request a song before SAM can get to it.
As far as playing a greater variety of songs, that can be accomplished by VIPs requesting lesser-played songs (which should happen eventually anyway). And if not, add a requirement that every 20th request or so (by VIPs) has to include at least one request for songs which have been played 20 times or fewer. |
