It has now been almost 20 years since the 80's ended (time flies!), but in many ways they are back again or still going strong, not just here at 1980s.FM, but also in television, theater, fashion, etc.
Maybe you know of some examples and would like to list them here... |

Ashes to Ashes:
This is a police show from the BBC with a twist - modern London policewoman Alex Drake gets shot in the head in 2008 and wakes up to find herself as a policewoman in 1981. The soundtrack and clothes are all from that period and make it a lot of fun to watch, not to mention Alex dealing with the different mentality and style of policing at the time.
My favorite is Episode 2 of the first season
Spoiler: Alex visits a new romantic club where the lead singer of Visage is really singing his "new hit single" Fade to Grey. Also, "Boy George" is working at the coat check. |
Unfortunately, I can only watch it here on DVD or by streaming , but I heard that it will be showing on BBC America soon. Maybe some of you will be able to watch it.
Ashes to Ashes is a follow-up to the hit BBC series Life on Mars which is about Sam Tyler, a Manchester policeman who ends up stuck in 1973 - another fun show for those of you who also like music, etc. from the '70s. |

|
Rock of Ages is a musical currently playing on Broadway.
From the official website:
"In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker and in LA’s most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the 80s."
This seems like a play that many of the music fans here (especially all you Hair Metal fans - lots of "big hair" and spandex) would enjoy. The play includes songs from Whitesnake, Twisted Sister, Poison, Journey, Asia, Styx, REO Speedwagon and others.
I haven't seen the play myself but it sounds fun. Maybe some of the members from the NYC area have seen it already and could comment on it? |
